Was he saying that we’d be in peace whitout god and we should all be athiest?
Or was he saying that we wouldn’t have the category religion because we would be sure that Christianity is the right one?
Btw, in the song Imagine by John Lennon.

he ment that is that ther will be at no point in that whole time that if i was to happen it would of happened now!!!
He meant no segregation by religion.
Why the thumbs down, that’s exactly what he meant.
I think it means he’s a Communist.
I think its pretty obvious.
God is good, religion is bad.
IT MEANS: IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT REELIGION, IF YOU CAN! HE WAS NOT!!! PROMOTING ATHEISM IN ANY WAY!
religion is just one more thing to fight about, don’t you see how different religions speak down of eachother beliefs, kinda like gangs, its just wrong.
He meant that all religions are wrong!
I always thought he meant religion started allot of bad things, like wars, and segregation.
That’s something I have thought about myself. I think he was saying that religion is the cause of a lot of problems, and we’d be better off without it entirely, that’s my personal interpretation, anyway.
i think it’s a communist thing.
he’s saying that if we were all communist, we would have peace. not such a great song once you find the meaning.
That we’d be in peace without God and we should all be atheist.
I think that John was a closet communist (“back in the USSR….you don’t know how lucky you are, boy….”)
He is asking you to try and imagine it. The world has a lot of problems with racism and sexism and even religion. He wants you to think about how different it would be if there was nothing to argue about in terms of religion. Would there be peace? He obviously doesn’t believe in a religion, and kind of wants you to understand where he is coming from.
he thinks religion just leads to people getting into fights
John Lennon was very well known and loved for his outspoken opinions on politics and war. He spoke about what many people believed at the time to be events that were beyond their control, but Lennon refused to stay silent and voiced his opinions via music.
“Imagine” was one of Lennon’s greatest songs and shows perfectly how he thought of the world and his views on life. The song itself was written by Lennon to talk about a world where divides between people did not exist. Divides such as religion, race money etc caused problems and prevented people from living together peacefully. Lennon’s song is telling us to imagine a world where there are no divides and therefore no war.
It was a part of the album by the same name released in 1971, it reached the number 1 spot in the UK music chart and number 3 in the USA. This showed the range of people who were moved by Lennon’s word and he actually wrote the song in such a way that it would appeal to as many people as possible.
It has been said that Yoko Ono played a big part in writing the song as well as providing the ideas and inspiration for Lennon to use. Die hard Lennon fans will most likely reject this but Lennon himself once admitted the part that Ono played and that it was his pride and selfishness that prevented him from mentioning her contribution at the time.
He wasn’t trying to promote atheism, he was just saying that if there were no categories or different religions, there wouldn’t be that much war or violence and disagreement over religion.
Does it have to be either either? I thought he was trying to say the world would be screwed if they gave up their beliefs. Of course this is nuts and was just the rantings of an egomaniac.
He is saying that his idea for the ideal world is a world with no separation. No country borders, no races, no religions, no language difference, nothing, everyone belonged to one united group
What he meant to say was, imagine if no one had a religion to practice or follow or impose onto others, that there were no prophets, no Jesus, no covenant with God, no Higher Power, no absolute powerful being. That’s what he meant. Imagine we all had each other for each other, nothing bigger to focus on, just us.
He was right in many ways cause life is BIG… not life in general… individual lives are huge too… On the other hand [from that thought] later on, he realized that we were all not really the same and the “Imagining” wasn’t really all we had to do. Some of us don’t have the power to “accurately imagine” things. If it’s a dream he was preaching, it was beautiful I give him that, I wish it was real. But the reality is some people just “have to let it go”. Later on, after Imagine, he wrote “Watching The Wheels”. The last sentence of the chorus is “I just had to let it go”
People can Imagine and people can accurately imagine. Which one was he talking about, we may never know. But if you go by his songwriting I could come to the conclusion that he realized imagining wasn’t everything. Hooking a fish wasn’t everything. So he let it go…
