Neat not so neat to install or use July 25, 2010 Bookworm Maynard (San Francisco, California) After at least 4 hours of multiple attempts to install the software to run my new Neat scanner I remain frustrated and extremely disappointed in this product.
I repeatedly get this message:
NeatWorks cannot access the NeatWorks database in C:\ProgramData\The Neat Company\NeatWorks\database.
If this error continues, please call Customer Support to resolve this problem.
While the instructions suggest calling Customer Support, the Neat Company doesn't actually provide a phone number to call for customer support, even on their website.
In the meantime, I have a $400 piece of equipment sitting here that I can't use.
Yes, I have tried using the complex and useless instructions on their website to correct the problem. Yes, I used the online request for support AND emailed customer support for assistance. Now I'm just waiting for a response while they have already to run to the bank to deposit my hard earned cash.
Would it be insane or radical to expect to speak to a real live human being at the Neat company who actually cares about whether the customer is satisfied and successful in utilizing their product? Right now, I'm feeling that Neat ain't so neat!
perfect for me July 25, 2010 usakiwi I am a Realtor who works from home and needs to scan a lot of documents. This scanner is working perfectly for me. I am using it with a New HP laptop DV7 and so don't know if the operating system has anything to do with it. I had read the previous reviews and was a little concerned but have been very happy with my decision. I have never written a review before but thought that if this scanner turned out good, then I owed it to write a good review.
Obviously...not beta tested. May 27, 2010 John P. Krug (USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was originally enthusiastic. A duplexing autofeed scanner was what I had been searching for. The scanner looks and functions great. Unfortunately, the software is the problem....and a big problem. There seems to be no way of avoiding the software and simply using the scanner to its full potential (ie. duplex, varying contrast, dpi etc.). Within 4 hours I was at the point of tears. There is NO SUPPORT to be found. If the only thing you scan are receipts, then it might work for you. If you want to organize general documents etc. stay clear of this one.
Great little scanner for a crowded desk May 18, 2010 Chris Hickman (Sierra Vista, AZ) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these scanners from a local office supply store to try it. I liked the design of the gravity feed without the drum wrap around on most sheet fed scanners. It feeds from the bottom, so scanning stacks of documents that were stapled or paperclipped (with wrinkled corners at the top of the document from this) is a snap. The writing speed from scanner to the computer is a little sluggish, but the queue holds quite a bit before it binds on you. I do not need, nor use the included software for organizing scans, only need the quick scan function (recommend you disable opening the files after creating as this really slows the thing down). I have a real estate office and only need to scan contracts to put into online transaction management system and/or email to agents/clients. After trying out the one unit for a couple weeks without major issues, I bought three more for my office staff to alleviate the traffic jam at our media room copier/scanner to do the same job. I will likely buy more as the need arises.
NO SUPPORT FOR NEATWORKS May 18, 2010 History Buff 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
There is no telephone support offered for its products by The Neat Company. The offered email support is illusory. Repeated emails to Support elicit only automatic replies which are little more than an acknowledgement of receipt. The website and knowledge base are useless as they are not intuitive and offer no search function. The NeatWorks software will install on some Vista operating systems without a problem and fail on other Vista operating system. With the failures you are out of luck because there is no support.
