SHOPPING

The Streets Of Dublin is a non-profit organisation but in order to help finance the site we direct our visitors to Amazon.

I have more than thirty years experience of buying abroad and by doing so I have saved a lot of money. I now purchase from a selection of vendors (Expansys, Komplertt, Dabs, Insight, Computeruniverse to mention but a few) but I rate Amazon as being the most dependable. I have only had 2 non-deliveries and replacements were provide immediately I complained

Amazon (DE)

At one time I purchased many CDs from Amazon in Germany because their prices were good and they only charged 17.5% VAT but they changed their policy regarding VAT rates so they now charge the rate that applies in the destination country (21% in my case)

Amazon (FR)

I have obtained a few Jazz CDs that I could not get elsewhere and have not had any problems with their service.

Amazon (CA)

Limited selection, excellent prices and excellent delivery times. When I first started dealing with amazon.ca I thought that the ca implied that the operation was based in california (silly me)

Amazon (UK)

This has to be my least favourite Amazon operation because their delivery times to Ireland are very poor and their prices are no longer as attractive as there were a few years ago. When I first began  buying from them they charged UK VAT and delivered everything from their catalogue ... suddenly they changed their policy and would only ship books, CDs and DVDs to addresses outside the UK.

All orders for third party products are refused, if you are based outside the UK, but it should be noted than I have an Indian friend who has discovered that if he contacts the third party directly they will usually ship to his home in Ireland (I am not saying that this is a process that is to be recommended).

Amazon (US)

This is without doubt my favourite. Prices are good, no VAT, deliver times are excellent. A word of warning ... if you live in the EU it is possible that you will be charged VAT at the local rate when the goods arrive in your country from the US
