The Dublin Handel Festival is an annual event that takes place every April in order to celebrate the connections between Handel and the City of Dublin. Dubliners and visitors, from all parts of the world, have the opportunity to enjoy a week long programme that celebrates the cultural riches of the 18th century in a modern and contemporary setting.
The 2009 Dublin Handel Festival takes place from the 13th to the 19th. of April in Temple Bar and other historic areas of the city. This year is the 250th. anniversary of the composer's death so the programme is jam-packed with Handel highlights including many outdoor events.
Our Lady’s Choral Society and the National Sinfonia, conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn, will open this year’s Handel Festival with a unique performance of ‘Messiah on the Street’, beside the original site right on Fishamble Street where the Messiah received its world premiere in 1742.
2009 will be a very special year for our Handel Festival as it marks the 250th anniversary of his death.
